Davis County Fair

A few weeks ago, someone jokingly said that Darin’s turnip was so big he should enter it into the fair.  I thought I’d surprise him and do it!  The morning of the fair I decided to enter his blackberries too.  Well, I was glad I did, because….

They BOTH took FIRST place!!

(not only are these blackberries HUGE but they are DELICIOUS!!)

While we were at the fair Matt played a ring toss game. 
We waited in line behind like 10 kids, and MATT was the FIRST to win!!  

Good job little buddy!!

Next we looked at the chickens.

Then, we went to the petting zoo…definitely a HIT!!

We looked at some of the fine arts.  Lindsay looking at some pictures.  Isn’t she cute!?

A little side story:

They had a cute baby contest at the fair, and every kid who entered got a prize.  So, since Lindsay is pretty stinking cute, I entered her in.   While she was on stage, she was smiling, and waving, and being “perfect.”  Then, I noticed the judges keep looking and pointing to Lindsay, and one other baby as they discussed.

First, they called out 3^rd place……not Lindsay.
Next, they called out 2^nd place…..not Lindsay.
Last, they called out 1^st place………….NOT LINDSAY!!

What!!?  Now I know why those pageant mothers are crazy, because you literally think that your kid is the cutest on the planet, and what is wrong with someone who doesn’t agree!?  (There were over 200 babies in her defense).  We will NOT be entering ANY more contests that are remotely similar to pageants.  Lesson learned.

Feeding the Ducks at Liberty Park

I thought it would be fun to go ride the paddle boats at Liberty Park.

But, when we got there, they were closed.

Luckily, we had some bread in the car and we decided to feed the ducks.

Unfortunately the ducks didn't seem hungry.  

But Lindsay was!  She kept eating the duck's bread.

Then we got rained out.

But it was still a really fun day!

Cooking Date Night

Darin and I had a little cooking date night.  

He wanted to make gazpacho and I wanted to make baked Alaska, so we did both!  

Not only was it a fun date, but I was able to check TWO things off of my 30 before 30 list.  

#20- Try a new food—both gazpacho and baked Alaska were new for me 

(however, I would still like to try a fig) 

and #26- Try a challenging recipe—supposedly Baked Alaska is a difficult recipe, 

but I didn’t think it was too hard.  Maybe I’ll have to try a crème Brule or a soufflé.

The gazpacho was a perfect recipe for our garden.  

It called for tomatoes, basil, peppers, and cucumbers.

Lemonade Stand

This past Christmas Grandpa and Grandma Gunnerson gave Matthew a cardboard castle.  He LOVED it!  It had been broken, taped back together, ripped apart, taped back together, over and over again.

The castle had finally had it.  It was time to throw it away.  Matthew was VERY upset.  I told him that we could turn it into something new if he wanted.  He chose a lemonade stand.  He helped me cut it, paint it, and put it together.

We took it up to Grandpa Welling’s house to take a few pictures first, and we even got a few customers, including our cute Aunt DeeAnna, Grandma, and even a few golfers at Bountiful Ridge took some over the fence (I REALLY wish I would have gotten a picture of that).

After taking some pictures, we came home, set it up at our house, and we “sold out” in about 5 minutes!  Even though the lemonade was free, Matt got a few coins for his mission bank!  He had SO MUCH FUN!

Bountiful Summerfest Street Dance

Tonight at about 6:58 I found out that the Bountiful Street Dance was going to start at 7:00.  

So, naturally we quickly changed our clothes (or put on clothes), and hurried over to Main Street.  

Dancers come in from all over the world & stay in Bountiful for 4 days.

It was very interactive and the dancers kept pulling people from the crowd to do the dances.  

(I think both Matt and Lindsay were secretly hoping to be pulled up).

Bountiful Concerts in the Park

Did you know that Bountiful does concerts in the park every Friday night?  

And they're FREE!!

I just barely found out, and I'm a little sad because last week was a Beatles night!

This week was a Beach Boys night and I thought they were great!

We started out with a little picnic dinner.

Then we played at the park for a while.

Next we went to the concert.

Matt and Lindsay were so cute together and kept dancing together.

We sat REALLY far in the back to so that the kids could just play on the grass.

It was fun to see some friends there—and my parents too!

  

It was a perfect summer night!
