Gunnerson Update

Matthew has adjusted AMAZINGLY well to having a new baby around! I was a little nervous the first day home, but he has done great with Lindsay! He loves her so much and hates when she is sad. It is really cute! He loves to read to her, sing to her, help burp her, and anytime she cries he runs to her room to help!! What a sweetheart!! Here are a few pictures of the two together. We had a fun week of birthdays! Tuesday was our pet Dorothy’s birthday! We’ve had her for a year now, and I was hoping she would only live a week (I know, I am an awful person). But, happy birthday to Dorothy! Wednesday was Matthew’s birthday. I had a lot of good intentions for his birthday, unfortunately I’m not back to 100% on the recovery, and a little sleep deprived, so Matthew got a “mini party.” In the morning, I decided to go the extra mile and make Matt some pancakes. I even put candles in them. However, blowing the candles out was the only thing he was interested in. After singing “Happy Birthday” about 10 times along with relighting the candles each time I told Matthew no more. He didn’t like that and hit me. So, he started the day with a time out. As I took him to his room he cried and said with sass, “Happy Birthday!” It was a little humorous! After he came out of his “time out” and said sorry he said, “I aunt elno” which translates to “I want oatmeal.” So, after making pancakes he just wanted his usual breakfast! Around 10:00 my sister Heather and niece Rachel came over and brought Matthew the cutest little toy story game! They stayed and played and Matthew had a great time! Next we made a cake together (Matthew loves to “mix” so that was a highlight of the day). Mom came over later to help put it together. After making pancakes and a cake I was worn our (sad I know) so instead of making pizza (like pizza planet on toy story) I just had Darin go buy some. My mom and dad came over for dinner and Ben and Kristy came to drop a present off for Matt and we all just stayed and visited for a while! It was a really fun birthday! Happy #2 little buddy!! I love you so sitnkin much!!

Thursday was my sweetheart Darin's birthday!! He made it to the big 3-0!! Can you believe that!!? Man we are getting old! Only 5 more birthdays until I am in his shoes! Darin had a really laid back birthday but it was a fun one!

The Birth of Baby Lindsay

First of all, we are so THRILLED beyond words that this little baby is here!! She is absolutely beautiful and an absolute sweetheart! Getting her here was a little more difficult than I had anticipated but she is definitely worth it!!

Contractions began around 1:00 am but they were about an hour apart. By 7:00am they were constantly 12 minutes apart and stayed that way until about noon. Around 1:00 I went to my sister Heather’s house for some lunch and a walk. That walk did it!! By 2:30 I was having strong contractions 5-6 minutes apart! I called Darin to come home from work. He picked me up at 3:00 and we went home to grab our things. I was going to take a shower but by the time I got home my contractions were about 3 minutes apart.

We hurried to the hospital and when I got to the frong desk I said calmly, "hi, I'm in labor." I don't know why but Darin and I couldn't stop laughing about that. When they checked me I was dilated to an 8 almost a 9. They told me that I was close enough that I should just go natural…my answer…NO WAY!! Well, I guess when you wait too long you don’t get much say in the matter. The anesthesiologist attempted to give me the epidural THREE times but the contractions were just too close together and it was time to push!

Lindsay was still really high even though everything else was ready so Dr. Ward broke my water hoping she would come down quickly. He wanted to wait for 10 minutes but I was in so much pain that he wanted to get the baby out sooner. She was turned the wrong way so Dr. Ward turned her (painful!!) then used the vacuum THREE times (also painful), then finally he gave me an episiotomy and used the forceps then she was out! I have a lot of friends and family that are pro natural birth--my hat off to you!! I NEVER EVER want to do it that way again!! I am definately a fan of having minimal pain!

At 6:08pm Lindsay Gunnerson was born at 7 lbs 14 oz and 20 inches long! She was absolutely gorgeous!! Everyone thinks that she looks just like Matthew but with dark hair! Matthew has had some GREAT moments with her, and a few less than great moments with her, but I think that he is doing pretty good! When we got home he wanted to show her every single one of his toys. It was really cute! He also kept saying “I wanna hold it.” Now he refers to her as Lindsay instead of “it.”

Last post before baby arrives!

I am currently having contractions about 10 minutes apart so I am trying to hurry and get caught up on last minute things…including the blog. My mom has been so wonderful to help me get things ready for the baby…here is the nursery as of today. It is pretty much ready but after we decide her name we’ll put that up on the empty wall.

Last week I had a little “baby shower.” My cute friend/secretary in the Young Women asked me if she could throw me a shower. I said no. She asked me about 6 more times and I said no six more times. Then she asked if she could do it with just the YW in the ward. I still said no. Finally, after a lot of persistence by Jena I said we could do one if the girls didn’t bring gifts. (I thought I had totally gotten out of it this time…I mean, how do you have a shower without gifts!!?) Well, Jena is so stinking darling that she did the CUTEST shower anyway!! She had the girls make hair bows, bracelets, blankets, and tutus!! Everything was so cute! I forgot to take pictures during the shower but here are a few of the things I brought home! Thanks a million Jena!











Yesterday Darin, Matthew, and I went on a little walk (which got these contractions going!) it was a nice overcast day and we got a few pictures while we were out! Aren’t my boys so stinking cute!!?

BABY UPDATE!!...and get your guesses in for the BIG DAY!!

Yesterday was kind of a scary day, I hadn’t felt the baby move for about 24 hours so I gave the doctor a call. I was sure they were just going to say to lie down for an hour and drink some water but instead they sent me straight over to Labor and Delivery. Darin came home early from work, and luckily there weren’t any problems but they monitored me for over an hour just to be safe. What a blessing it was to hear that sweet baby’s heartbeat! I cried when I heard it!! My wonderful sister was so nice to take Matthew with no notice, so I could go and even let Darin and me stay a little longer and enjoy a celebratory lunch!

Today I went in for my regular checkup and I am dilated to a 3, 80% effaced, and -1! The doctor said that I probably have another week left and I can be induced any time after the 18th if I want to. I can’t believe that we will have 2 kids in less than 2 weeks!! Wahoo!! I am soooo excited to meet this little girl!!

I LOVE hearing people’s guesses for when the baby will come! So far my brother Ben and sister in-law Kristy think 1-11-11, my mom and sister Heather are guessing 1-13, and my dad is guessing 1-15. So, when is your guess? You may even get a prize if you are the closest…but no guarantees! My guess is the 15th at 6:01am. (I think that would be a really fun day because then she could share her birthday with BOTH of her Grandpas!)
