Cars and Pancakes

Last night we went to the Bountiful Rotary Club Car Show.

It was my first time going, and I think that we’ll be making it a tradition!

First we watched the car parade.

Linds was getting a little restless towards the end of the parade.

I really like this car for one big reason….

Check out that polished bumper!  You can see our family in it!

After the kids had seen enough we came home for some yummy pancakes and homemade syrup.

Darin always does "Pancake Monster" every time we have pancakes.

Relax.

We were in the kitchen.

I was making rolls and the kids wanted to help.

The rolls were for a dinner party, so I didn't want the kids to help.

I was uptight, frustrated, and  stressed.

Then, I noticed Matt and Lindsay had poured more flour on the counter
and were drawing pictures in the mess.

I thought it was cute, so I took a picture.

Then, Matt took a handful of flour, threw it right at me, and started to laugh.

I felt my blood pressure rising as I debated what to do or say to Matt (time-out, lecture, etc.)

But then, I grabbed a handful of flour, threw it back at him, and we both started to laugh.

We got in a BIG flour fight.  It was fun.  REALLY fun!

I was late to the party, I had to re-shower, and I had a really messy kitchen, but it was worth it!

And even though we will NOT be having a flour fight every time I make rolls,
it was good to calm down and relax.

Rocky Shores!!

Our family took a little trip to the zoo this weekend.

We started out on a train ride.  Part way through the ride the train broke down.
It made for a fun new adventure.

Next we saw the elephants, and got to feel elephant skin.

We were laughing pretending that this elephant had been naughty, and was on "time-out."

With the new opening of Rocky Shores they let the kids decorate their own hat.

When we actually got over to "Rocky Shores" there was a HUGE crowd.

Everyone kept saying that there was nothing to see so the huge group left.

Then, when we came over, THREE otters came over and were swimming right next to us.
They even started doing all kinds of tricks--I got some GREAT videos!  It was awesome!

When we went to the glass below, the same thing happened.

No action. Crowd leaves. Animals come.
Even the polar bear jumped in right where we were looking and he started doing tricks.

I swear, it was like every animal was saying,
"Here come the Gunnerson's, so put on a good show!"

Because next we went to the bears and right when we walked in, the bear walked right up to us!

We LOVED Rocky Shores, but the giraffes are still my favorite.

I think I might be rubbing off on Matt because he kept pretending to be a giraffe.
Sitting on dad's shoulders trying to eat the leaves with his tongue.

I LOVE the zoo!!

It was extra fun to be there with favorite person ever!

SEW cute!!!

Yesterday I was looking at our cute cousin Amy’s blog.

Her daughter was wearing THE cutest swimsuit I’ve ever seen.

You can see how cute it is HERE.

Well, I went to J.Crew, only to find it was $55.  Ya, I’m not paying that.

So, with a little help from my mom, we made this:

It’s not exactly like J.Crews, but I LOVE it!

And guess how much it cost us to make it!?
$2.00!
Oh ya!!  Just saved $53!  Happy day!

Thanks mom for the help!

(*Disclaimer: We didn’t sew this whole suit from scratch.  We bought two of the exact same swimming suit, and just cut up the 2nd one to make the ruffle).

Get out your suits!!

We had a combined FHE with the Welling side to clean up the yard around grandpa’s pool.

It looks a lot different this year because during the wind storm Grandpa lost a few of his trees.

We worked to get things cleaned up.

After the work was done Grandpa brought us all ice-cream cones!

Just a few more things need to be worked on with the actual pool and then,
LET THE SWIMMING BEGIN!!

The Strawberry Patch

We have a little strawberry patch in our backyard that we started last year.

I can’t believe how well it has done!

The past week we've been picking strawberries for breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and dessert.

If I leave our back door open I'll always find Matt and Linds in the strawberries.

Today when the kids were picking I just had to snap a “few” pictures.

(I just may regret letting her go after those strawberries--
REALLY hoping that juice will come out, her shirt is soaking right now)

Quick Trip to the Cabin

We took a quick trip to the cabin this weekend.  And I mean a REALLY quick trip.  We went up right after work, picked up dinner on the way up, had smores, watched a movie, went to bed, woke up, ate breakfast, packed up, and came home.

We went up with our friends Jon and Laurie (aka our children’s second parents—Matt and Lindsay ADORE them, so do we).   I don’t think I would make it through church without these two.   Thanks for all your do for our family Jon and Laurie!
